For hundreds of years, street performers have charmed snakes with their waving flutes, putting on a show for people on the street. In India, fearsome cobras have been used to amuse passersby and the charmers are rewarded by people throwing coins in a hat.
Ashkelon’s Marina has its own busker, who uses pythons to delight and frighten kids and parents alike. Moshe the “snake charmer” can be found standing at the entrance to the Marina mall, with two large snakes wrapped around his neck or shoulders. For a small fee, he will wrap the reptile around your neck and take an instant photo and allow you to take a selfie.
Next time you visit the Marina with your kids or grandchildren, look for Moshe the “Snake Charmer” and stop by for a photo. It is a memory that they will have their whole lives.
