  3. They deserve another chance

I was really torn on what to write about Joya. When we first moved here – pre-Corona – it was one of our favorite places to eat. The portions were reasonable for the price, and the Sushi was adequate. (I admit to being a sushi snob.) Then Corona hit, and everyone suffered. Especially the restaurants. We tried to order in as often as we could, and Joya was one of our frequent orders. As Corona went on, and lockdowns increased, the quality of the food decreased. It was increasingly oily, and one really had to search to find the chicken or the beef in the dish ordered. So, we stopped ordering. When things opened up again, we decided to give Joya another shot, but again we were disappointed. Last week we decided to give it one more chance before we eliminated it from our list of places we go to. We were pleasantly surprised. Gone was the excess of oil (noodles were not doing the backstroke), and the amount of chicken in the Diablo Chicken that I ordered, was plentiful and tasty. I expected “Diablo” to be spicy, but it really wasn’t, but then my wife says I have no taste buds. We both ordered the Teriyaki Wings as an appetizer, and they were wonderfully sweet and sticky. My wife ordered the Vegetable Pad Thai, and it was perfectly prepared and very tasty. The portions were generous, even though we ate the business lunch, and there was even enough for lunch the next day, I’m keeping Joya on my list of places to go to and will go back again.
